The city of Columbia lies in both the Monroe and St. Clair counties, Illinois. Positioned almost 12 miles from St. Louis, Columbia has a population of over 9,000 people and a total area of 10.30 square miles. Most of the population that settled after the colonial Americans were of German descent who were hired as farmhands.
