In the Midwestern state of Illinois, Waterloo is based in Monroe County. Serving as the seat for the Monroe County, Waterloo looks over the county’s official matters and businesses. The area we now know as Waterloo was first founded in 1818 before being chartered as a town in 1849. It was not until 1889 that it was finally incorporated as a city that it became the quaint and friendly community we know of today. It is home to a population of over 9,000 people and lies on a total area of 8.27 square miles.

Visitors and newcomers alike can indulge in one of Waterloo’s many recreational facilities that are offered. With a vast entertainment and cultural scene, rest assured you won’t be bored. For the history and culture geek, a trip to the History Museum of Monroe County is sure to be informative and engaging at the same time.

The Monroe Actors Stage Company is also based in Waterloo and you’ll find many theatrical masterpieces to see if you like. If you find yourself to have an adventurous and curious personality, then a visit to the Illinois Caverns State Natural Area will give you an exhibit of mysterious caves that you can explore and look around in.

If not that, then a casual meet-up with the friendly fold of Waterloo at one of the community park will get your spirits high. Here, you can treat yourself to a delightful picnic with family and friends, or engage with a friendly match of football with other visitors.

If you prefer peace and quiet, then maybe you prefer gazing over the lush grounds of Annbriar or Mystic Oak Golf Courses. After an enjoyable trip through the town, you can sit down and grab a bite to eat at one of the various outlets and restaurants in Waterloo that feature a wide range of cuisines.
